Cheddar Steam Club Ltd
Good housekeeping for Cheddar Steam Club site.
The safety cabinet on the lockup shed must be open at all times when any type of model is being sailed on the lake or any type of train is being run on the rail track or when anyone is on the Club premises for any other reason. The combination code is the same for both the entrance gate and the safety cabinet.
A safety cabinet containing a fire extinguisher and a fire blanket is located in the railway station area and another in the boat steam up area. When operating steam driven train then the railway safety cabinet should be open. When operating a steam driven boat then the boating safety cabinet should be open. Please ensure that both cabinets are closed and locked before leaving site.
The launch area of the lake must be kept clear at all times except when launching or recovering models.
The steaming bay of the rail track must be kept clear of obstructions (e.g. toolboxes, gas / water cans etc.)
No smoking is permitted in the Pavilion or in the vicinity of the lockup shed that may contain inflammable substances or near models or near pressure vessels when being fuelled with gas.
Visitors or guests operating members models must do so at the risk and under the supervision of that member. An Officer or Committee member, if present, should first be informed.
No attempt whatsoever must be made to wade into the lake, the edges of which are very slippery and dangerous even when dry.
Members are not permitted to use people carrying craft on the water other than in an emergency for model recovery or for the purpose of lake maintenance.
Members using the lake should always wash their hands in clean water or use disinfectant wipes. The lake is static and could carry infection.
Do not put paper hand towels down the toilet as they will cause a blockage in the drainage system. Please put paper hand towels in the waste paper bin provided.
All members are requested to take any rubbish home with them. There are no rubbish collections from the Club site by the local council.
Dogs must be kept under strict control at all times and not allowed to disturb other users of the Club’s premises or to worry other animals. All excrement must be cleaned up by the pet owner and removed from site.
Do not drive vehicles down the slope to the lake after heavy rain when the ground can become water logged.
Do not drive vehicles past the end of the gravelled driveway in winter when the ground is waterlogged and saturated to avoid the churning up of the grass and to prevent vehicles getting stuck in the mud. There is parking available close to the site entrance on the lefthand side. Park with your drive wheels closest to the gravelled drive to avoid getting stuck on the grass.
Any incident involving personal injury or damage to property must be reported as soon as possible to an Officer or Committee Member of the Club. No admission of liability must be made in any circumstances.
The person switching on the gas for the pavilion cooking facility is responsible for switching it off again. The person who switched on the gas must delegate the switching it off to a responsible member if the cooking facility is still required after the person switching it on wants to leave the club site.
The last person to leave site must ensure that all chairs and paraphernalia are put away in the pavilion or into the storage shed. Check that the ladies and gents toilets are locked and that the passage doors between the pavilion and the shed, front and back, are also locked. Lock the pavilion and shed and lastly lock the key cabinet.
Before leaving the Club site, it is imperative that the final action for the last person leaving is to lock the entrance gate on exit.
In winter, the water main will be switched off at the stop cock to prevent burst pipe water damage to the pavilion. Anyone switching on the water will be responsible for following the system filling and the drain down procedure :-
Drain down procedure: Turn the external stop cock off; leave the kitchen and toilet taps turned on slightly and open the drain outside cock located next to the stop tap. Flush the toilets to clear the cisterns. The system will then be empty. Turn off the taps and close the drain down valve. A spanner or key is located in the top draw of the kitchen unit.
To refill the system turn on the stop tap. Listen for any leak and if you hear any, turn off and report the leak to a committee member. If ok easy open the taps releasing air until water flows. Note that the outside tap will remain turned off for the winter by way of the relevant valve in the men’s toilet.
